School Readiness Program

High-Quality Care in a Nurturing Setting
As your child begins transitioning to Kindergarten, they are becoming more independent, communicating ideas clearly, and exploring their world with growing confidence. At this exciting stage, they benefit from a learning environment that blends intentional teaching with play-based inquiry.
- Structured learning: Our directed activities have a strong focus on critical thinking, collaboration, and emotional regulation.
- Plenty of play: Outdoor activities, excursions, play-based learning, and open-ended exploration encourage your child’s individual development.
- Firm foundations: By strengthening early literacy, numeracy and STEM skills, we encourage children to become lifelong learners.
- Care and consistency: We work on routines, self-care and social confidence, informed by a Circle of Security approach.
Our School Readiness Program is guided by the Kindergarten curriculum and built around our belief that a safe and nurturing environment helps your child to thrive at school and throughout their lives.
A Steady Rhythm
Our School Readiness Program includes teacher-led learning, peer collaboration and independent discovery. Each day brings new experiences within a familiar rhythm that helps your child feel secure and capable.
Drop-Off
We welcome you and your child, and help them settle into the day. This time supports a calm transition and builds independence.
Learning Activities
Our educators guide activities in STEM, literacy, creative thinking and open-ended inquiry using safe, age-appropriate materials.
Meals and Snacks
We prepare nutritious meals and snacks in our on-site kitchen. Mealtimes are shared and social, helping your child develop healthy food habits.
Quiet Reflection
Downtime is important to let children recharge, reflect and regulate. We provide clean nap spaces and quiet activities.
Outdoor Pedagogy
We spend time outside every day. Our outdoor spaces encourage wonder and imaginative play, building an interest in the natural world.
Social Connection
Excursions, group experiences and community events help your child get comfortable with new people. We also guide conversations about friendships, fairness and feelings.
Afternoon Wind-Down
As the day ends, everyone pitches in to help pack away. Your child reflects on their learning and gets ready to transition back to home life.
Why Perth Families Choose
Teddington Bears Early Learning
The year before school is full of milestones for children and families. At Teddington Bears, we provide the support needed to make that transition feel positive and empowering.
Educators Who Care
Our program is led by experienced early childhood educators who understand how to balance school readiness goals with individual needs. Group sizes are small, which means every child gets the attention they need to practise new skills with confidence.
Children Who Thrive
We align with the Early Years Learning Framework and Kindergarten curriculum to ensure continuity with what comes next. But we know that not all learning is academic. We teach children how to ask for help, manage emotions, join a group, and bounce back from setbacks. By the time children graduate, they know how to follow routines, work through challenges, and approach school with a strong sense of self.
A Community That Supports
Diversity and respect are central to our philosophy. Everyone is welcome, and we seek to celebrate diversity in small and big ways. Whether it’s tasting a new food or welcoming parents and families for a cultural celebration, children learn the value of community every day at Teddington Bears Early Learning Centre in Perth.

Frequently asked questions
How does the School Readiness Program prepare my child for primary school?
We support children to practise the routines and expectations of a school day—like managing their belongings, listening in a group, and completing tasks. They also build key academic foundations in literacy and numeracy, while developing social and emotional tools that help them thrive in group environments.
What age is the program designed for?
Our School Readiness Program is for children in the year before starting school, usually aged 4 to 5. We work closely with you to determine the right time to begin based on developmental readiness, not just age.
Will I receive updates on my child’s progress?
Yes. You’ll receive regular updates through our secure online platform, including photos, reflections, and learning stories. We also schedule parent–educator meetings to discuss your child’s development and school readiness, and we’re always available for check-ins if you have questions along the way.
To learn more, visit our For Families page. You can find information about daily updates and regular check-ins, plus parent-friendly resources.
Can I access the Child Care Subsidy through Teddington Bears?
Absolutely. Teddington Bears is a registered Child Care Subsidy (CCS) provider. Your eligibility will depend on your family’s income, your activity hours, and how often your child attends. Our team is happy to walk you through the process or help you estimate your rebate.
Do you offer programs for other ages?
Yes. We welcome children from 6 weeks to school age. Our programs are tailored to support each stage of development:
- Infants (6 weeks to 2.5 years).
- Toddlers and Preschoolers (2.5 to 4 years).
- School Readiness Program (4 years to school age).
This continuity helps children grow with confidence across every stage of early learning. It also gives families with more than one child a safe, trusted solution for childcare in Perth.
