Our Early Childhood Curriculum
Inspiring Confident, Curious Learners
At Teddington Bears, our approach to early learning is built on strong relationships and hands-on exploration. We follow each child’s pace while supporting their early skills in literacy, numeracy, STEM, creative arts and social development, in line with the national Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). Our small group environment, grounded in a Circle of Security approach, helps every child feel safe and ready to learn.
Our highly experienced early childhood educators nurture each child’s individuality in a safe, caring and thoughtfully designed environment.
Learning that Nurtures the Whole Child
Our thoughtfully designed spaces and high-quality early learning activities support children to reach developmental milestones. We foster holistic growth, with a focus on three key areas.
Connection and Well-Being
We nurture social, emotional and physical development. Secure relationships and a sense of belonging form the foundation for confident learning.
Thinking Through Play
Hands-on experiences encourage children to explore ideas and interests. From STEM activities to gardening and group problem-solving, every day is full of discovery.
Creativity and Communication
Children develop self-expression and confidence through storytelling, music, art, dialogue and community interactions, setting them up to be curious learners.
A Foundation for Lifelong Learning
Our curriculum is shaped around the national Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), which respects who children are now and who they are growing into. We also reflect EYLF principles by building secure and respectful relationships, partnering with families, offering inclusive experiences and regularly reviewing our practices. Whether it’s supporting a new friendship, encouraging an experiment, or gently extending a child’s language, our educators maintain a dynamic and responsive curriculum.
Through this approach, children build:
- Strong social skills and emotional resilience, learning to manage feelings, engage with peers and contribute to their world.
- Curiosity and critical thinking sparked through experiments, creative play, and guided inquiry.
- Communication and creative self-expression as they narrate ideas, ask questions and explore stories.
- A sense of identity, community and care, paving the way for school readiness.
Our early learning facilities provide the spaces where these lessons come to life. By creating a warm, homelike environment filled with safe and engaging activities, natural elements, quiet zones and collaboration areas, care and education go hand-in-hand at Teddington Bears.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you work with families as part of the curriculum?
Absolutely. Families are central to our early childhood curriculum. We share daily updates, invite your feedback and insights, and use your knowledge of your child to shape learning. We also provide opportunities for parents and family members to be part of the experience, including:
- Cultural celebrations.
- Graduation ceremonies.
- Regular parent-educator check-ins.
- Excursions and incursions.
- Volunteering days.
Together, we support your child’s journey of learning and self-discovery.
What age groups do you cater to?
We welcome children from 6 weeks to school age. Our programs are structured across three key development stages:
- Infants (6 weeks to 2.5 years)
- Toddlers and Preschoolers (2.5 to 4 years)
- School Readiness (4 years to school age)
Each program is tailored to support your child’s development, and our high educator-to-child ratios ensure every child receives individual care and attention.
Who are the staff at Teddington Bears?
Our educators are qualified and experienced in early childhood education and care. All staff hold current First Aid certificates and Working With Children checks, and many have been part of the Teddington Bears community for years. Our assistants and kitchen staff are trained in child safety and we regularly review our protocols to ensure we uphold the highest standards every day.
How do you support school readiness?
We guide children to develop the skills they need for a confident transition to school. This includes early literacy and numeracy, as well as social, emotional and self-help skills. Children practise following routines, working in groups, managing emotions and expressing ideas. By the time they leave us, they’re ready to take the next big step.
What learning areas do you focus on?
Our curriculum focuses on early childhood development, incorporating pre-literacy, pre-numeracy, STEM skills, creative arts, physical development, social skills and emotional understanding.
All learning is play-based, purposeful and responsive to each child’s rhythm. By building genuine relationships with families and our community, we help children to develop holistically and achieve milestones on their journey to school.
