For Families

Our Community
Families are central to the Teddington Bears early learning philosophy. We build strong relationships with our community and celebrate the diversity that makes our early childhood centre unique in Perth. Our calendar includes cultural days, family BBQs and graduation celebrations. Parents are invited to join excursions and volunteering days. These moments help children feel proud and connected.
Nutrition
Healthy, wholesome food is important for growing children. We prepare fresh meals and snacks every day with seasonal menus created by qualified nutritionists. Our onsite kitchen follows strict hygiene protocols and caters for allergies, intolerances and cultural preferences so every child is included at mealtimes. Children taste a variety of flavours and textures, encouraging them to explore healthy food habits from an early age.

Absolutely, we strongly value parent and carer involvement. You’ll stay connected to your child’s experience in little moments and regular check-ins:
- Daily updates provided through our secure online portal, including photos, stories and reflections.
- Parent-educator check-ins to discuss development milestones, care needs and budding interests.
- A monthly newsletter with centre news, curriculum updates, menu changes and upcoming events.
- Cultural celebrations and community events such as graduation ceremonies and special visits.
- Volunteer opportunities, including helping in the kitchen or lending a hand in the garden.
We also provide a range of parent-friendly resources to help you engage with your child’s learning at home.
What are your Health and Safety policies?
Your child’s safety and wellbeing are our top priorities. We have strong safety measures in place, and we regularly review our protocols to ensure we’re ahead of emerging risks:
- Strict hygiene practices: Deep cleaning, handwashing (for children and staff), safe food handling systems and laundry are part of our everyday operations.
- Allergy awareness: Our on-site kitchen caters to all allergies and dietary requirements, and we’re a nut-free early learning centre.
- Emergency readiness: We run regular training and simulations to ensure our staff are sharp on fire, evacuation and medical procedures.
We work closely with families to address health concerns and medical needs. Please feel free to reach out any time if you would like to discuss your child’s care.
What ages do you care for?
- Infants (6 weeks to 2.5 years): Babies explore sensory play and receive nurturing care.
- Toddlers and Preschoolers (2.5 to 4 years): Toddlers learn foundational skills in an environment that nurtures their budding personalities.
- School Readiness Program (4 weeks to school age): Children prepare for the classroom with a focus on pre-literacy, pre-numeracy and emotional confidence.
Each stage is tailored to meet developmental needs, and our low educator-to-child ratios ensure every child receives individual attention.
Who are your educators?
Our educators are qualified in early childhood education and care, and have extensive hands-on experience. All staff hold current First Aid and Working With Children checks. We invest in ongoing training so our team stays up to date with best practices, and educators work closely with families to understand each child’s personality and interests.
As a close-knit community, we’re focused on creating consistency and a familiar environment for children. You are welcome to visit our early learning centre in Burswood for a no-obligation tour.
What is the Teddington Bears early childhood education philosophy?
We follow the Early Years Learning Framework, which values play-based, inquiry-led learning. Children explore concepts in literacy, numeracy and STEM through everyday experiences, and interact with nature – and each other – to develop curiosity in the world around them.
As educators, we adapt to each child’s interests and rhythm. Through a Circle of Security-inspired approach, we build strong and genuine relationships that support academic skills as well as creativity, resilience and social development. This all takes place in thoughtfully designed learning environments where children have safe, high-quality learning resources.
